Umoja is DeFi's structured finance protocol, offering easy-to-use, low-risk, high-yield tokens collateralized by major cryptocurrencies like BTC, ETH, and SOL.
Learn more about Umoja below:
Umoja is an asset creation protocol that provides effortless, low-risk, high-yield crypto for everyone called 'smartcoins.'
Backed by assets like BTC, ETH, and SOL, smartcoins give you direct exposure to high-market cap cryptocurrencies while reducing volatility and delivering competitive yields, often surpassing yield vault tokens (YVTs). Learn more about Umoja.
Investors lack accessible, low-risk, high-yield, and liquid digital asset investment opportunities due to the complexity of managing crypto-native yield strategies and the absence of structured products that limit risk, achieve yield targets, and ensure security and compliance, creating a significant market gap in a rapidly growing digital asset sector optimally forecasted to reach $250 trillion by 2028. Learn more here.
The global structured finance market was valued at approximately $1.72 trillion in 2022 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.47%, reaching around $3.49 trillion by 2028. The increasing demand for diversified investment options, such as digital assets drives this impressive growth. Despite this, no mainstream, crypto-native structured products are available– even though BTC and ETH ETFs saw multi-billion dollar net inflows within months of their launch!
A global structured digital asset market cannot thrive without the necessary CEX and DeFi trade execution engines, which are currently absent. Traditional financial execution layers support an average daily volume (ADV) of $1.94 trillion, with a remarkable 69.1% year-over-year increase. Learn more here.

Smartcoins are low-risk, high-yield cryptocurrencies that automatically grow your money through advanced trading strategies. Backed by assets like BTC, ETH, and SOL, smartcoins directly expose you to high-market cap cryptocurrencies while reducing volatility and delivering competitive yields, often surpassing yield vault tokens (YVTs).
Smartcoins can always be exchanged for their underlying collateral, opening the door to creating a near-infinite number of accessible, liquid, and compliant financial products tailored to any investor's risk and return preferences. This represents a massive opportunity to revolutionize how we think about and engage with financial assets. You may learn more about $UMJA's tokenomics.
Smartcoins consist of two main components:
Base Asset or collateral: This provides the underlying value of the smartcoin.
Automated trading strategies, often used by hedge funds.
The smartcoin autonomously trades its value, aiming to achieve specific financial goals.
Higher yields: Smartcoins often generate significantly higher returns than traditional assets.
Reduced risk: Their built-in trading strategies help mitigate losses.
Ease of use: No need for complex trading knowledge or constant monitoring.
Variety: There's a potential for countless smartcoins with different strategies.
The base asset and synth of a smartcoin are owned by the smartcoin's ERC-20 smart contract. Users simply hold the smartcoin token and benefit from its performance.
Currently, the Smartcoin that is available is $yBTC, a BTC-denominated, principal-protected yield-bearing BTC. More smartcoins will be available soon.
$yBTC is a principal-protected, yield-bearing Bitcoin token. It allows you to hold onto your Bitcoin (BTC) while potentially earning returns through automated trading strategies.
How does $yBTC work? $yBTC uses your deposited BTC as collateral and executes trading strategies like covered calls and arbitrage to generate yield. Your initial BTC investment remains protected.
How can I get my Smartcoins, including $yBTC? Deposit your BTC to mint $yBTC and hold them in your crypto wallet. You can also get $yBTC if you stake $UMJA tokens into our Governance pool.
How is collateral custodied? Your BTC is held with the qualified custodian Cobo.com, further protected by smart contract audits.
How is $yBTC different from traditional crypto options? Unlike traditional options, $yBTC protects your principal investment in BTC. Additionally, $yBTC generates yield through its strategies, while traditional options do not. $yBTC also utilizes institutional-grade custody and insurance for added security.
What strategies does $yBTC use to generate yield? $yBTC utilizes a combination of covered calls and cross-exchange perpetual futures funding fee arbitrage to generate returns.
How to mint $yBTC? Please read the guide How to Mint and Burn $yBTC.
What are the fees associated with minting, burning, and withdrawing $yBTC? $yBTC charges standard fees for perpetual futures trading, custodian services, and a small portion of the yield for maintenance and insurance reserves. Also, to burn your smartcoins, you will need to burn a small amount of $UMJA tokens ($UMJA is the native utility token for the Umoja Protocol).
What happens if I accept a Mint quote but deposit a different amount of BTC? If you deposit a different amount of BTC, we will not be able to place your Mint transaction request. Please contact our support team via our Telegram Channel or Discord. We will return your BTC amount to your crypto wallet minus the fees incurred in this transaction.
I want to place a second Mint transaction but the Accept quote button is disabled. To create a new Mint transaction, you must wait until the current Mint quote expires or until your Mint transaction is finalized. This can take up to 2 hours.
My quote expired. How can I get a new quote? If your quote expires, request a new one by entering the amount of BTC that you want to deposit.
I clicked on “Confirm deposit” by mistake and now I don´t know where the deposit BTC address is.
You can check the deposit address on the details page of your transaction. Navigate to the dashboard section and click on the Transactions menu to localize your latest Mint-accepted quote.
I want to Burn my $yBTC but do not have enough $UMJA tokens to proceed with the transaction. You need to Mint $yBTC to earn $UMJA tokens as a reward. You can also swap your assets for $UMJA at Uniswap.
Where can I check the amount of $UMJA tokens I have? You can navigate toward the portfolio dashboard section to check your $UMJA amount.
Where can I check the amount of $yBTC smartcoin I have? You can navigate toward the portfolio dashboard section to check your $UMJA amount.

Umoja´s Synths (synthetic options) allow you to take a leveraged bet on the future price of an asset with zero liquidation risk, offering far greater flexibility and capital efficiency than traditional options.
The significant difference between Umoja Synthetic options (Synths) and traditional options is the ability to redeem the refundable collateral anytime and zero-liquidation risk protection availed by Umoja Synths, unlike traditional options where your premium can be liquidated. In a conventional options market, a buyer can only access options premium by selling to a third party while Umoja Synths does not require a third party, offering the flexibility for the user to redeem collateral and Synth balance by closing a synth position from their synth´s details page.
When using Umoja you can run 2 different types of Synths (aka synthetic options). Your choice of Synth will depend on your preferred trading strategy informed by your perspective of the market direction. With Umoja, you currently can place Put or Call Options.
Put: placing a Synthetic Put Option is like a financial safety net. It’s a strategy to protect you from a drop in prices when you think the market is going down. With Umoja, you can lock in your gains by placing a synthetic put option.
Call: when placing a Synthetic Call Option you are betting that the price of an asset will increase without having to own or buy that particular asset. With Umoja, you can use a Synthetic Call Option to take a leveraged long position without the risk of liquidation. Learn more here.
Currently, Umoja supports opening a Synth for BTC, ETH, and AVAX. More currencies will be added soon.
Umoja uses the Arbitrum network, make sure your assets are in the Arbitrum Network and your wallet when connecting to and making payment on the Umoja platform.
Follow the instructions given by your wallet extension provider. Take into account that sometimes, especially if you are using Metamask, the wallet will not open automatically, so please be attentive to the notifications shown on your wallet extension icon.
Points are rewarded based on these user´s on-chain activities:
Synths All Umoja Synths, irrespective of the underlying token and Synth position, whether a Put or Call, accrue points based on: Total Notional Value (the total amount spent by the user on all the Umoja Synths created) and Synth active duration. Therefore, users with Synths with higher notional value and longer duration have a higher chance of earning extra points unlike when a synth is active for a short duration.
Stake All Umoja Stake transactions accrue points based on the total amount staked, and Time staked. Therefore, users who Stake with higher values and longer duration have a higher chance of earning extra points.
Points correlate with the amount, time, and quantity of your Umoja activities. More points mean more eligibility for airdrops.
