The development of structured digital assets and their underlying position and trade execution layer is incredibly complex, ranging from compliance, security, custodial, and quantitative engineering considerations.
To ensure that the protocol is safe to use and can scale to support hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars in transaction volume, the core development entity of Umoja, Umoja Labs, has scheduled a development roadmap that introduces simpler structured digital assets first, such as synthetic options, and then evolves its approach to enable smartcoins later on, after demonstrating the initial viability of structured digital assets (SDAs).
Umoja's Beta version is a CeFi (centralized finance) blockchain protocol that introduces the world's first non-fungible, structured digital asset - Synthetic Options.
Synth Options are more affordable, flexible, and less risky than traditional crypto options, as they are replicated based on underlying perpetual futures trading.
Synth Options serve as an asset management primitive to go short and long with 20x leverage with built-in liquidation protection. Beta will support the following Synth Call and Put Options for BTC, ETH, and AVAX.
Beta enables users to:
produce, track, and close Synth Option positions for BTC, ETH, and AVAX, and;
access automated risk analysis of BTC, ETH, and AVAX to help inform potential Synth Options strategies.
Umoja's Mainnet V1 is a partially decentralized asset creation protocol introducing the world's first fungible, structured digital asset - Smartcoins. Most notably, Mainnet V1 launched $yBTC: DeFi's first BTC principal-protected and yield-bearing token.
Umoja's Mainnet V2 will be a decentralized asset creation protocol that supports many smartcoins, leveraging various delta-neutral and directional strategies.
Important Notice: Synthetic Options Service Deprecation
We stopped our synth options service on April 18, 2025. All active positions by this time were automatically closed on the user´s behalf, and all funds were sent back to users.
